The Baithakji is on the banks of lake Gopi Talav in this village.
Shri Mahaprabhuji came here and stayed under the Peepal tree. Shri Krushnadas Meghan, who was with Him, asked “My Lord, why is the lake named “Gopi Talav” when the Gopies never left Vraj? Also, the sand on the banks of the lake is known as “Gopi Chandan”. So, why is the name “Gopi” used?”
Shri Mahaprabhuji explained the glory of Gopi Talav by saying “Once, Shri Krishna (in the form of Shri Dwarkadhishji) had praised the Gopijana a lot in front of his wife, Queen Rukmaniji, during the Dwarka Lila. Queen Rukmaniji, slightly jealous, questioned “Maharaj, I am a princess and your main wife. I also do your Seva as a maid. I am totally faithful to you. And you are still praising the Gopijana of Vraj. Is it fair?”
Shri Krishna smiled and replied, “You are right, though nothing is comparable with the dear Gopijana of Vraj, not even you. Because, during the Vraj Lila, when I played flute on the night of Sharad Purnima, the Gopijana of Vraj came to me leaving their houses, families and village, leaving all their shyness. They broke all their worldly ties and religious codes for my sake. Can you do this too?” She replied, “I don’t have anybody’s fear except you. If you will play flute, I will come there definitely.”
After some time, Shri Krishna played flute at night on the banks of Gopi Talav. Queen Rukmaniji and the sixteen thousand and eight queens ran away towards him. But, when they saw Ugrasena and the other elders at the gate of the palace, they became shy and they all returned back to their rooms. They did not leave the palace.
On the other side in Vraj, a distance of thousands miles, the music of this flute was heard by the Gopijanas and they started to walk in the direction of this music by leaving everything in Vraj. Lord Shri Krishna, once the Gopijana arrived, held a grand Raas on the banks of Gopi Talav. Hence, this place is known as Gopi Talav and the sand is known as Gopi Chandan.”
The Sevakas were overcome with the emotion on hearing this incident. Shri Krushnadas Meghan requested of Shri Mahaprabhuji “Maharaj, please let us see that divine Lila too.” Shri Mahaprabhuji gave them the divine vision to see the Raaslila. All the Sevakas forgot their existence upon seeing this Lila. Shri Mahaprabhuji then awaken them and later held Shri Bhagavat Purana here.
This Baithakji was partially destroyed in a major earthquake in 2001. Under the guidance of Tilkayat Goswami Shri Indradaman Maharaja, Shri Nathdwara Temple Board gave permission for the reconstruction of the Baithakji.
