Shri Mahaprabhuji spent a month on the banks of Krishna Kund in the forest of Kokilavan. This forest is among a dozen or so beautiful forests of Vraj – dense trees with many birds as its residents. In such a peaceful environment, Shri Mahaprabhuji recited the Shri Bhagavat Purana here under the Chhokar tree.
At the same time, Chaturnaga, a disciple of the Nimbarka Sampraday, was living there with his 1,000 followers. He came to Shri Mahaprabhuji, prostrated Him with respect and requested “Maharaj, you are the Vaishnav Acharya who has debated and defeated all the Mayavadis in the south. So please shower your grace on my 1,000 followers by feeding them kheer”
Shri Mahaprabhuji ordered Shri Krushndas Meghan “Go to Nandgam and bring five Sher (1 Sher = 933.10 g) of milk and make kheer for the 1,000 followers of Chaturnaga. The kheer was prepared and as Shri Mahaprabhuji looked on the vessel, the kheer became inexhaustible. The 1,000 followers ate to their hearts content and yet the same five Sher of kheer remained!
Seeing this miracle, Chaturnga requested by joining both hands “Maharaj, You are no other than the Lord Himself. Please make me Your Sevak”. Shri Mahaprabhuji replied “You already have a Guru. However, my grandson Shri Gokulnathji will make you a Sevak in the future and you will enter into the Path of Grace”.
Chaturnaga asked “Maharaj, until then what is the faith that I will have this body”? Shri Mahaprabhuji replied “You will live until you are 150 years old. When you are 100 years old, Shri Gokulnathji will shower His grace on you”.
For many years, Chaturnaga stayed in Vraj. He would have the daily Shringhar darshan of Shrinathji. Once whilst rambling in Vraj, his hair got tangled on a tree branch and he could not free himself for three days. Then Shri Krishna came to free him.
Around this time, Mughal Emperor Jahangir ordered that all Vaishnavs were forbidden to wear Tulsi Mala. Chaturnaga fell victim of this order and had his Mala removed. A little later, he passed Shri Gokulnathji in Mathura. Shri Gokulnathji reprimanded him by saying “We do not remove Tulsi Mala or Tilak even when we are married and have household responsibilities. However, you have removed the Tulsi Mala as an ascetic. How is this appropriate”?
Chaturang replied “Maharaj, forgive my mistake. After such a long wait, I have met You. Kindly accept me as your sevak”. Shri Gokulnathji, knowing the promise of Shri Mahaprabhuji, gave him Brahma Sambandh and made him His sevak.
At the age of 150 years, he took samadhi in Govindkund near Goverdhan Hill. Even today, the place of Chaturanaga's samadhi is present.
